März 1838 geboren, wurde auf der Berliner Universität als Zögling des Friedrich-Wilhelms-Instituts rnedicinisch ausgebildet, war wesentlich Schüler von Traube und dessen Assistent von 1867-1869. Promovirt am 15. März 1860, fungirte Fraentzel vom Jahre 1861-1865 als Militärarzt am Rhein, an der russisch-polnischen Grenze und im Feldzuge gegen Dänemark 1864. Seit 1865 war er in Berlin als Stabsarzt und praktischer Arzt thätig. Von 1869-1873 war er dirigirender Arzt am Augusta-Hospital; von 1870 dirigirender Arzt einer inneren Abtheilung an der Charite. Seit 1870 Privatdocent, wurde er 1875 ausserordentlicher Professor (für Auscultation, Percussion etc., Laryngoskopie, Lungenkrankheiten). Gleichzeitig war er Ober-Stabsarzt und Regimentsarzt. Von ihm erschienen: "Die Krankheiten der Pleura" (in zwei Auflagen) --"Structur der spinalen und sympathischen Ganglienzellen" (Entdeckung der die Ganglien umkleidenden Endothelien). Verschiedene Aufsätze über idiopathische Herzvergrösserungen.
