Unpaginated, with approx 400+ pages. Part of the Saalfield Company's "Companion series" issued for children in the early 20th century, each illuminated by famous artists of the day. Ms Brundage (1854-1937) was particularly renowned for her drawings of children & ethnic images, which were stereotypical but not derogatory, as evidenced here. Published in 1924, this hardcover has that colorful front pastedown over green cloth-covered boards, lettered in black to spine. Condition is VG- (minus): generally quite clean & completely unmarked, with the occasional, random spot or smudge. Pages heavily tanned, commensurate with age & paper quality. Text block is secure, but front hinge is cracked & frontispiece has torn away from binding from top nearly all the way down. Significant rubbing to extremities, with loss to most edges. Both ends of spine are pushed & rubbed, but cloth is intact. A lovely edition & prime example of some of Brundage's best work. Color pictorial covers well toned and soiled, two short tears at front cover's top edge center with small patch of surface scuffing at top right corner, some scuffing lengthwise along spine fold, staples rusted but binding remains firm. Bumping to cover's bottom corners as well as to interior pages with latter also having light toning and slight soiling. Cat story and color illustrations throughout all by the prolific Frances Brundage. A good+ copy of an quite uncommon Brundage title of which OCLC cites copies at only seven member libraries.
