The original paper covers and internal pages show natural age-toning and expected dust-soiling. There is noticeable handling wear to the wide page margins in the form of historical thumb prints. A survivor. The Author: Francis John Jayne was a highly influential and progressive Victorian churchman. Before becoming the Bishop of Chester (a post he held from 1889 to 1919), he was the Principal of St David's College, Lampeter. He was famously passionate about social reform, famously advocating for the "Gothenburg system" of public house management to reform British drinking habits. …
