Doctorwürde, machte mit einem kenntnissreichen und gebildeten Landsmanne eine grössere Reise nach Italien und Wien, wo er von van Swieten veranlasst wurde, sich dem medicinischen Studium zu widmen, das er 1786 in Lemberg beendete, worauf er in Wien die Doctorwürde erlangte. Er wurde darauf zunächst Arzt in Szegedin, 1790 Physicus der Csongrader und Csanader Gespanschaft und 1794 als Professor der Medicin an die Universität Pest berufen, wo er über medicinische Polizei las und auch als Arzt einen grossen Ruf gewann. Beim Ausbruch der orientalischen Pest in Syrmien 1794 machte er sich durch seine entschiedenen und trefflichen Massregeln um die Hintanhaltung der Seuche verdient, erhielt dafür den ungarischen Adel und, nachdem er auch bei dem späteren Ausbruche der Seuche in der Bukowina sich in gleicher Weise bewährt hatte, den Rathstitel. Als 1803 in dem Temeser, Arader und Bekeser Comitat der Scorbut mächtig um sich griff, so dass in kürzester Frist 72 Ortschaften befallen waren, ebenso als in Dalmatien, Istrien und dem Venetianischen das gelbe Fieber sich gezeigt hatte und als 1806 in einigen Gegenden Ungarns ein schnell sich verbreitender Typhus auftrat, wurde Schraud von der Regierung dorthin geschickt, um die nöthigen Vorkehrungen zu treffen, jedoch wurde er von der letztgenannten Epidemie in Eisenstadt selbst ergriffen und erlag derselben 18. März 1806. Als Protomedicus von Ungarn, zu welcher Würde er ernannt worden war, hat er auch noch anderweitig segensreich gewirkt, durch seinen Kampf gegen die Quacksalberei und das ungeregelte Baderwesen, durch die Organisirung des Chirurgenwesens und die energische Einführung der Kuhpockenimpfung.
