Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Wrappers. 12mo, mostly unpaginated, 16 + 64 unpaginated pages. First 16 pages (numbered) are black-and-white plates of illustrations by various artists: Mabel Humphrey, Maud Humphrey, Rufus F. Zogbaum, and others. Publisher's advertisements for their books include titles about the Spanish-American War, religious books, and current fiction (some covers illustrated in line), including two works by George Gissing. Of special interest is an eight-page photographically illustrated section devoted to "Northward over the 'Great Ice'" by Robert E. Peary, followed by a couple of other polar titles. Very good condition, tiny chip off lower right corner of front wrapper, lower tips of a number of pages with minor accidental crimping. Attractive cover, title printed in black with red ornaments and border against a mottled green paper, similarly with back cover advertising the Christmas double number of "The Pocket Magazine." The dots in the title as we gave it are as printed, not an elision. A visually very appealing booklet.

New York: Frederick A. Stokes Co., 1914. 1st ed. (illustratore). First Edition. New York: Frederick A. Stokes Co., 1914. 1st ed. First Edition, Inscribed by Frankfurter to a Protege Brandeis, Louis D. [1856-1941]. Other People's Money and How the Bankers Use It. New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company, [1914]. xiv, [2], 223 pp. Original cloth, gilt titles to front board and spine. Small stain to front board, light wear to spine ends and corners, majority of gilding rubbed away from spine title. Moderate toning to interior, gift inscription from Felix Frankfurter to front free endpaper. Preserved in a handsome green clamshell box. $2,500. * First edition, first issue. This scathing critique of "Our Financial Oligarchy" is based on a series of articles published in Harper's Weekly from 1913 to 1914. Frankfurter [1882-1965], a protege of Brandeis, inscribed this copy to one of his proteges, Francis Shea [1905-1989], who was one of his former Harvard Law students (LL.B., 1928). Shea became a prominent New Deal official and went on to a distinguished career as the dean of the University of Buffalo School of Law, which experienced a renaissance under his direction. Recruited by Robert H. Jackson, he was Roosevelt's Assistant Attorney General, heading the Claims (now Civil) Division. In 1945 he joined the staff of American lawyers that helped to design the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, then served on as a prosecutor at the trials. Returning to Washington after the war, he established what became a leading Washington law firm, Shea & Gardner. The inscription reads: "To Francis Shea/ With the cordial regards/ & good wishes of/ Felix Frankfurter.".
