Front cover loosened lower 2 1/2" but still intact. Internally generally clean, occasional light foxing. All four plates are present; the Fremont frontispiece poetrait, the portrait of Col. J.J. Abert, and the two uncaptioned plates. All plates are slightly yellowed. This is the so-called new edition, the first edition published in 1845. Stamp also appears at the end of the book. Appears to have been rebound as the binding is in great condition for an 1849 book. There is a small stamp on inside of back cover: CHS Dup.California Historical Society duplicate. No other markings in book. No foxing except on the inside of the front and back covers. Not really foxing but discoloration from the glueing of the leather binding.
