Extensively and beautifully illustrated with engravings including head and tail pieces, initials, and maps. Additionally, there are 4 full page plates (frontispiece, opposite page i, opposite p.135/signature R2V, opposite p. 385/signature Ccc) and 3 fold-out maps/vignettes (opposite signatures m4v, C4v and Zzv). Illustrations in this edition were originally printed in the magnificent Samuel Clarke edition. Pages 33-48 (E & F gatherings) have been mis-bound behind gathering G. Front cover joints partially cracked at top and bottom but holding. Tear to leaf Gg2. Damp stain to frontispiece, title page and last few pages of the index. A few pieces of old tape repair to the spine. Includes Caesar's Gallic War, Civil War, African War, Alexandrian War and fragments along with a life of Caesar by Enea Vico di Parma, preface by Andrea Palladio, and geographical notes by Scaliger and Ortelli.
