Folds open into one sheet. Brochure is very clean and intact except for light age toning, slight wear to extremities, and slight wear and few tiny splits along…fold lines. A Very Good copy. A promotional folding brochure containing the "Official Map of Central San Joaquin Valley Showing Fresno County and Parts of Adjoining Counties." The map is on one entire side of the brochure when opened. The map is printed in black-and-white with printed yellow ink highlighting Fresno County. The map is centered upon Fresno County and shows the city of Fresno and other nearby towns and cities (some of which are not shown in their entirety) such as Madera, Firebaugh, Merced, Los Banos, Clovis, Fowler, Selma, Reedley, Hanford, Tulare, Visalia, Exeter, Lindsay, and Porterville. The Northeast and East Corners of Fresno County are cut off at the edges in the upper-right corner but are shown instead as inset maps in the lower-right corner. A small Index map to the left shows the relative size and position of Fresno County compared to other California counties. In the lower-left corner is the legend which shows symbols for geographical features such as interstate highways, main roads, railroads, canals, township borders, state highways, rancho boundaries, national forest boundaries, river and dams, small towns or post offices, and school houses. The map is on a numbered grid which may be showing land plots. On the verso of the map is a green and white printed illustration showing an aerial view of Fresno and some major routes running through the city such as Blackstone Avenue and State Highway 41 (to Yosemite and Huntington and Bass Lakes), U.S. Highway 99 (to San Francisco or Los Angeles), Ventura Ave. (to Sequoia and General Grant National Parks and Kings River Canyon), White Bridge Road and State Highway 180 (to Los Banos), Kearney Boulevard (to Coalinga), and Elm Ave (to Hanford and Coast Points). Brief text below this illustration promotes Fresno and its various features and aspects such as its farming and agricultural industry, business prospects, schools and amenities, recreational opportunities, local attractions, transportation system, and proximity to Yosemite, General Grant, and Sequoia National Parks and other outdoor recreation areas such as Bass Lake, Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake, and Hume Lake. No date, circa 1907 (one part of the text describes Martin Theodore Kearney (1842-1906) as having passed away last May). 4 3/4" x 6 1/2." Unpaginated, c. forty-eight pages…, complete. Many small black-and-white illustrations, complete. Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning and slight wear to extremities. Covers are clean and intact overall but have moderate age toning (covers are now yellowed), a former owner's gift inscription in dark blue ink on front cover and inside of back cover, splitting at tail of spine, a few tiny stains on front, and slight wear to extremities. A Very Good copy. Charming pamphlet that promotes travel to and settlement in Fresno County, California. Many different subjects are covered with a brief section of text dedicated to each (many of these sections are one paragraph or less in length). Much of the information herein describes Fresno County's thriving agricultural industry. Among the subjects relating to Fresno County discussed in this pamphlet are the healthful climate and weather, soil, raisin-growing industry, irrigation, public schools, the Kearney bequest, land values, alfalfa, dairying, cattle and sheep, poultry and eggs, "green fruits," wine grapes, cereals, bee-keeping, watermelons, oranges and lemons, wine industry, electric power, lumber, mining, oil, mountain scenery, and Fresno County towns (including Fresno, Selma, Reedley, Fowler, Sanger and Clovis, Kingsburg, Laton, Coalinga, and Kerman).

Promotes Sanger, California, "the Nation's Christmas Tree City," as a place to live and work. Mentions the "importance of nearby Pine Flat Dam construction" which will bring new industry to the region. The construction of the Pi…ne Flat Dam across the Kings River began in 1947 and was completed in 1954. Additionally, the leaflet promotes "outdoor fun" in the nearby Sierra Nevada and the verso is devoted to a large map of the Sierra north and west of Sanger, from Yosemite National Park south to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and "distances from Sanger, California," to various outdoor recreation areas, including "Sanger Lake (to be)." In 1949, the city was designated the "Nation's Christmas Tree City" by the U.S. Postal Service. A fine copy. (#177200).
