Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Other, Wollega University, course: economics, language: English, abstract: The failure of the Seattle ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to launch a new round of multilateral trade negotiations brings into sharp focus the increasing divide between developed and developing countries in their respective agendas for reforming the international trading environment. The developing countries need a genuine and well-defined agenda for moving the reform process forward. While there is no unanimity among developing countries with regard to the particular items that belong on the agenda, there are common areas of interest that are different from the agenda of the developed countries. This essay attempts to set the background for a new round of multilateral negotiations, though it may take place later than was thought possible on the eve of the Seattle meeting (Rajapatirana, 2000)The 1980s saw nearly all the developing countries reform their trade regimes, improve their economic performance, and provide increased access to exports from developed countries. Many developing countries joined the WTO, and many others are now waiting in the wings to join. The 1990s saw a continuation of the reform trend of the 1980s, despite a few pauses such as the 1994 payments crisis in Mexico and the East Asian crisis that began in 1997. The implementation of the Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations since the mid-1990s gave a definite fillip to trade liberalization in developing countries, as the decade saw the intellectual case for free trade receive new support. But there were also deflections from the mainstream position. New challenges to trade liberalization in developing countries have arisen both from the need to complete the agenda of their domestic reforms and from developments in the international trading environment.[.].…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1 (A), Wollega University (wollega University), course: Development Economics, language: English, abstract: This study attempts to investigate the effect of government expenditure on private investment in Ethiopia over the period 1980-2012. The central question of this study is weather government expenditure has a positive or crowding in effect (complementary hypothesis) or a negative or crowding out effect (the substitutability hypothesis )on private investment in Ethiopia. To achieve its objective it adopted a modified flexible accelerator model to enlighten on the economic relationship between private investment and the other variables and used the modern technique of vector auto regressive model (VAR) and vector error correction model(VECM)as its methodology. The study also used the Johansen-Juselius (1990) cointegration analysis of a multivariate system of equation to estimate the long run relationship between government expenditure and private investment to determine the order of integration of the variable and Granger-Causality test was undertaken to determine causal relationship between the variables. In addition to this the study employs the Augmented Dicky-Fuller (ADF) unit root test and phillip perron test. The statistical tests reveal that all-time series data are non-stationary in their level and they become stationary after diffrencing.i.e.they are integrated of order one I(1).The johansen-juselius cointegration test shows that the series are cointegrated and then employs the vector error correction model moreover the study applies the impulse response function (IRF)and forecast error variance decomposition (FEVD) to investigate the effect of government investment shocks on private investment. And the empirical findings support the complementary hypothesis between government capital expenditure and private investment and that tends to crowd-in private investment in Ethiopia. And the empirical finding of recurrent part of government expenditure shows a mixed effect of complementary hypothesis and substitutability hypothesis which tends to crowd-in and crowd out effect .Thus government expenditure have a positive as well as negative effect on private investment and finally the study is used CHOW test in order to know whether structural break has an effect on private investment or not and the result depict that there is a structural break that have a positive effect on private investment of Ethiopia.Keyword: Government expenditure, private investment, VAR, crowding-In, crowding out, Ethiopia.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich VWL - Umweltökonomie, , Veranstaltung: Environmental Economics, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Monetary valuation of environmental goods has by now become the subject of numerous economic books and articles. Interest in the topic seems to be increasing in the economics profession, and theoretical insight, methodological improvements and the numbers of empirical findings are expanding rapidly. The aim of such valuation is usually to incorporate environmental concerns into a cost-benefit analysis. Another purpose is to construct environmentally adjusted national income measures Environmental value estimates have also been combined with macroeconomic models, e.g. to estimate welfare effects of a climate treaty Further, estimated willingness to pay is now accepted in the USA as a basis for legal compensation claims for damages to natural resources caused by spill of hazardous substances (Nyborg, 1996)Valuation can simply be defined 'as an attempt to put monetary values or to environmental goods and services or natural resources'. It is a key exercise in economic analysis and its results provide important information about values of environmental goods and services. This information can be used to influence decisions about wise use and conservation of forests and other ecosystems. The basic aim of valuation is to determine people's preferences by gauging how much they are willing to pay (WTP) for given benefits or certain environmental attributes e.g. keep a forest ecosystem intact. In other words, valuation also tries to gauge how much worse off they would consider themselves to be as a result of changes in the state of the environment such as degradation of a forest.Economic valuation never refers to a stock, but only the change in a stock. If one speaks of the economic value of biodiversity, then one always means the economic value of a change of biodiversity. It is not a question of determining the 'true' value of biodiversity or ecosystems but valuing changes and comparing them with their alternatives, e.g. with a golf course vs without a golf course. Thus it is non-sense to ask 'how much are the African National Parks worth ' A plausible question in this case would be: 'WWF has proposed a new policy to prevent the huge losses of wildlife species from African National Parks. What is the monetary value of the benefits of this policy (i.e., the economic damages avoided) Economists thus stress that the valuation should focus on changes rather than levels of biodiversity or ecosystem.
