Original orange wrappers, a little faded on the spine. Near-FINE copy. The Turner paper… is a review of the state of nuclear fission less than two years after the discover and includes a very useful bibliography at the end of the paper which runs from pp 1-39. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of underlining in the paperit is neat and light, but it is there nevertheless. This and the Zwicky are excellent papers and I just couldn't trash the issue for the underlining and so I'm charging only 25.00 USD for it, about 30 ounces of French roast. The Zwicky appears on pp 66-85. There's also an interesting paper by Hrvey Fletcher ("Auditory Patterns") on pp 47-65.

Why do anything simply if you can do it complicated And still, life itself presents a sufficient number of problems to ke…ep us busy. There would seem to be no need to create additional difficulties, just for the fun of it, especially if these self-made difficulties become practically insuperable and if in the end they cause much unhappiness. The morphological mode of thought and of action was conceived to break the vicious hold which the parasitic wild growth of complications exerts on life in all of its phases. Morphological thought and action are likely to be of value in all human activities, once such thought and action have been clearly delineated and fully developed, and once they have been practised by a sufficiently large number of people. Since the morphological method is of the greatest universality, the choice of the field to which one applies it first is not particulary critical. The author intends to write two or three books on the morphology of several large scale problems, which are both of a technical and of a general social nature. The present book is concerned in particular with some implications of morphological thinking in astronomy. We shall above all emphasize the basic character of the morphological approach, and we shall demonstrate its constructive power in a number of specific cases.

Hardin Stated In His Analysis Of The Tragedy Of The Commons That "Freedom In A Commons Brings Ruin To All." Environmental Historians Joachim Radkau, Alfred Thomas Grove And Oliver Rackham Criticized Hardin "As An American With No Notion At All How Commons Actually Work". In Addition, Hardin's Pessimistic Outlook Was Subsequently Contradicted By Elinor Ostrom's Later Work On Success Of Co-Operative Structures Like The Management Of Common Land, For Which She Shared The 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize In Economic Sciences With Oliver E. Williamson. In Contrast To Hardin, They Stated Neither Commons Or "Allmende" In The Generic Nor Classical Meaning Are Bound To Fail; To The Contrary "The Wealth Of The Commons" Has Gained Renewed Interest In The Scientific Community. Hardin's Work Was Also Criticized As Historically Inaccurate In Failing To Account For The Demographic Transition, And For Failing To Distinguish Between Common Property And Open Access Resources. Despite The Criticisms, The Theory Has Nonetheless Been Influential. In 1993, Garrett Hardin Published Living Within Limits: Ecology, Economics, And Population Taboos, Which He Described At The Time As A Summation Of All His Previous Works. The Book Won The 1993 Phi Beta Kappa Award In Science. In The Book, He Argues That The Natural Sciences Are Grounded In The Concept Of Limits (Such As The Speed Of Light), While Social Sciences, Such As Economics, Are Grounded In Concepts That Have No Limits (Such As The Widespread "Infinite-Earth" Economic Models). He Notes That Most Of The More Notable Scientific (As Opposed To Political) Debates Concerning Ecological Economics Are Between Natural Scientists, Such As Paul R. Ehrlich, And Economists, Such As Julian Simon, One Of Ehrlich's Most Well Known And Vocal Detractors. A Strong Theme Throughout The Book Is That Economics, As A Discipline, Can Be As Much About Mythology And Ideology As It Is About Real Science. Hardin Goes On To Label Those Who Reflexively Argue For Growth As "Growthmaniacs", And Argues Against The Institutional Faith In Exponential Growth On A Finite Planet.
