Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. In this 1882 issue of "Harper's New Monthly Magazine" is a fascinating article about "Quaint Old Yarmouth", an ancient port and fishing town of Massachusetts. The engravings that accompany the essay are beautiful. Also included are articles on Torpedos and Torpedo Boats; woodland flowers ("In t…he Pines", again with lovely illustrations); an article about Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, with a handsome portrait; a historical piece on ancient pueblos and the native Americans who built and lived in them; "The Social Athens of America" focuses on some of the leading families in the upper crust of genteel America. There is much more, including serialized fiction, poetry, and literary discussions. A very interesting smattering of advertising includes a stunning promotional advertisement for amateur photography and supplies. This is "Harper's New Monthly Magazine", Volume 65, No 385, issued in June of 1882, as found still in its original wraps. The issue's frontispiece is a reproduction in gravure format of a picture by E. A. Abbey. A small remnant of a subscription label can be seen on the front . BINDING - Re the aforementioned loss to foot of spine . There is evidence of minor mending neatly effected to the front cover's attachment to the spine - else the issue seems solid, with no detached or loose leaves. In addition to including works by many poets: Wallace Stevens (Peter Quince at the Clavier), Robert Frost (The Road Not Taken and others), Sara Teasdale, Edward Arlington Robinson, James Weldon Johnson and Amy Lowell, to name only a few - this book is also a yearbook of poetry for 1915 and…it includes information on poetry books published that year, the contributors, and on magazines which publish poetry. Braithwaite, an African American poet himself, was the foremost American poetry anthologist of his time. Very good condition - one small spot to front cover, a little peeling of paper label on sprine, and acidification on 2 pages where a piece of paper was laid in (marking Frost's Death of a Hired Man.) - overall a tight and clean copy with the first book appearances of many important poems.
