Supplementary Volumes, starting in 2015, publishes monographs and collections of papers pertaining to all aspects of the study of ancient literature and its reception, with a special focus on interdisciplinary approaches, combining Classics with Literary and Cultural Studies. Editor in chief: Christoph Schubert (Erlangen-Nürnberg) ; Weder die antike (rhetorische und poetische) noch die moderne (diskurs- und kognitionslinguistische) Theoriebildung hat bislang Irritation und Verunsicherung als Faktoren des Persuasionsprozesses hinreichend reflektiert oder systematisiert. Der vorliegende Band, der sich wesentlich auf die Ergebnisse des im Rahmen des Berliner DFG-Clusters 'Languages of Emotion' geförderten Projekts 'Rhetorik der Verunsicherung - Muster negativer Affekt-Strategien und ihre persuasive Funktion' gründet, versucht diese Lücke zu schließen. Seine Beiträge untersuchen Irritation und Verunsicherung als kommunikatives Geschehen, das bestehende Gewissheiten erschüttert und gefestigte Meinungen, Einstellungen oder Verhaltensweisen hinterfragt. Im Zentrum steht dabei das rhetorische und poetische Potenzial textuell fassbarer Äußerungsakte, das an einem Spektrum literarischer Gattungen und alltagssprachlicher Textsorten illustriert wird. Durch die rhetorischen und literaturwissenschaftlichen wie auch pädagogischen und linguistischen Fragestellungen wird der Bogen von der persuasionsorientierten Rhetorik zu den literarischen Verfahren der Poetik gespannt.
