An abundant body of erotic literature proves that the Chinese were masters of the first of the arts, that of the "alcove" or the "bedroom," to use the expression favored by Chinese encyclopedists. The art of love in China, according to Chinese authors, is therefore what this collective of writers sought to convey through this magnificent work.
