In North Rhine-Westphalia there are currently 52 different orchid species and subspecies. Many of them occur on calcareous subsoil and can be found on semi-arid grassland, on poor pastures or even in quarries. Others prefer bogs or swampy meadows as their habitat. A few are common and also grow, for example, in cemeteries or in parks. This book contains everything you need to know about the occurrence of orchids in North Rhine-Westphalia, their biology, habitats, threats and protection.
