Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 128 pages, + frontispiece and six leaves of illustration. 170x110mm. Original publisher's cloth, spine decorated and lettered black with decorated front cover. With a preface by Michael Fogarty, Bishop of Killaloe. *** Father Edward J. Galvin (1882-1956) was founder of the Missionary Society of St. Columban and first Bishop of Hanyang, China. Born in Co. Cork, he was ordained a Catholic priest at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth and held early positions in Cork and Brooklyn, New York. In 1912 he travelled to China, founding in 1916 the 'Missionary Society of St. Columban' which was dedicated to the conversion of the Chinese people to Catholicism. Father Galvin dedicated the rest of his life to work in China until his expulsion in 1952. *** *** The rarity of this little volume is explained by the fact that the "Catholic Truth Society of Ireland' premises on O'Connell Street, Dublin was completely destroyed by fire in 1922 during the Irish Civil War. *** Slight wear (with no loss) at head and tail of spine, otherwise a very good copy without any damage, library stamps, inscriptions or other markings.…
