Suhms eksemplar med hans navnetræk og dato (1796) på titelbladet.** Sjælden. Tidligt værk om depression og selvmord. Slutningen af 1700-tallet var præget af angst for selvmord i kølvandet på Goet…hes 'Den unge Werthers Lidelser' (1774), som kirken mente ville afføde en decideret selvmordsbølge. Hvorvidt dette reelt var tilfældet, står lidt hen i det uvisse.

Gamborg blev i 1788 udnævnt til professor extraordinarius i praktisk filosofi ved Københavns Universitet, en stilling han ikke blev længe i, da han i 1796 udnævntes til sekretær og assessor i konsistoriet, samtidig med at han afgik som regensprovst.
