In genere la critica si è mostrata cauta, sovente scontrosa, verso questo suo "secondo mestiere"; mentre di tutt'altra qualità è stata la ricezione tra gli scrittori che ne intuirono la caratura. Questo volume indaga il rapporto tra diversi autori (Varchi, Aretino, Foscolo, Wordsworth, Stendhal, Mann, Montale, Morante e altri) e i versi buonarrotiani e, attraverso delle severe analisi dei testi, illustra perché Michelangelo occupi nel Parnaso un posto più nobile di quello che la storiografia ha tramandato. This book presents an original investigation of the relationship of a variety of authors (Varchi, Aretino, Foscolo, Wordsworth, Stendhal, Mann, Montale, Morante and others) with Buonarroti's verse. Through close analysis of the texts, it shows why Michelangelo should hold a more noble position on Parnassus than that which historiography has hitherto granted him.
