Softcover. Condizione: Very Good. Pioneering American geologist and paleontologist Julia Anna Gardner's Additions to the Molluscan Fauna of the Alum Bluff Group of Florida, completing her original 1926 study with the additions of new species, described in detail and illustrated 10 full-page plates with captions to each example on versos. Notably, Gardner was renowned for her 32-year career with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and her expertise in stratigraphy and ancient mollusks and perhaps best known for critical intelligence work during World War II with "The Dungeon Gang," a select team within the USGS Military Geology Unit that conducted the Balloon Bomb Investigation, a comprehensive analysis of sand ballast from Japanese incendiary balloons that reached the U.S. Pacific Northwest. By identifying microscopic seashell fragments in the sand, she pinpointed the exact Japanese beaches used as launch sites. 82 pp. 9" x 6". Tight, unmarked copy with original text printed on coated paper and a precise facsimile cover replacing the original cover. Photographs of or additional information about this item are available on request. All inquiries answered promptly.
