Original dark olive cloth rubbed with mottling to boards; bumping and nicks/fraying at spine ends; board corners bumped and worn; spine's gilt stamping remains bright as does gilt stamped Indian vignette at front board center. Toning and foxing to text block edges; several small dark ink stains to fore-edge. Chip and tear at ffep's center fore-edge margin with missing paper adhered to immediately opposing area of fp; foxing strongest on initial and rear leaves but with occurrences to interior pages and plates. Binding stressed at several points with a few quires ever so slightly pulled but otherwise all holding. Features reports/essays: "Pictographs of the North American Indians" by Garrick Mallery; "Pottery of the ancient Pueblos" by William H.
