Erste französische Ausgabe dieses epochalen Werkes. - "Gauss veröffentlichte seine 'Arithmetischen Abhandlungen' mit vierundzwanzig Jahren, eine erstaunliche Leistung, wenn man bedenkt, daß es als ein Buch angesehen wird, mit dem eine neue Epoche der Mathematik beginnt.… Es bildet eine Grundlage der modernen Zahlentheorie. In Teil IV enthält es eine Erörterung des quadratischen Reziprozitätsgesetzes, das Gauss als erster schon in jungen Jahren bewies, während Euler und Legendre es vor ihm vergeblich versucht hatten. Seine Methode, einem Kreis ein reguläres Vieleck von siebzehn Seiten einzubeschreiben, ist in Teil VII ausgeführt - es war die erste neue Entdeckung dieser Art in der euklidischen Geometrie seit über zweitausend Jahren" (PMM). - Durchgehend etwas stockfleckig bzw. gebräunt. La reliure est en très bon état ; propre et bien complète, montrant de l'usure très mineure aux coins extérieurs droits et quelques rares frottements mineurs au dos qui montre aussi un certaine insolation (pâli). On remarquera aussi quelques manques à la dorure ici et là. L'intérieur est en excellent état, bien propre, solidement relié sans rien à signaler qui soit digne de mention sauf un jaunissement uniforme des pages.
