First edition. Publication date based on advertisement for this work in Carter's 1915 'South African Home Garden'. Crown 8vo; lettered in black on spine and upper cover; pp. (vi) + 108, incl. adverts.; photographs. Earlier owner's hand-stamp to front free endpaper; a little pertinent annotation to margins and rear free endpaper recto. Good condition. (SABIB 1, p. 476) A second edition appeared in 1919. George Carter, F.R.H.S., was a pioneering Natal nurseryman. Carter's nursery flourished in Pietermaritzburg into modern times. "Concise hints on the making of farm plantations, shrubberies, rockeries, &c.; with descriptions of trees and other plants suitable for economic use, and pictorial effect.".
