First edition limited to 430 numbered copies and designed by Bruce Rogers (Warde 74). Spine faded, lightly soiled. Slipcase lightly chipped along edges. Else a near fine copy. Printed at The Riverside Press in Cambridge, MA. The typography is by the notable American book designer Bruce Rogers (1870-1957), who "was appreciated in his lifetime. In addition to several honorary degrees, in 1948 he was awarded a gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for distinction in the graphic arts. Over decades of accomplishment in which he designed approximately 500 books. Rogers literally defined the profession of book designing in the United States" (ANB). Francis Meynell stated that Rogers was."the greatest artificer of the book who ever lived" cloth, paper spine label, slipcase with paper spine label.
Hardcover. Condizione: Very good. VG. Light wear to corners and edges, but clearly a rarely read copy. Binding is straight and generally tight, though there is some separation between copyright and preceeding page. Previous owner's stamp on ffep, else extremely clean and unmarked throughout interior. Very mild age tanning. Scarce in hardcover with such minor use and wear.

Number 98 of this privately printed second edition limited too 250 copies. Inscribed by the printer Bixby on FFEP. Original double slipcase is soiled at blue outer case with rubbing and shelfwear to edges and corners. Toning and soiling to spine label. White paper inner case is heavily rubbed and soiled, with one bottom seam nearly fully split, the other split but holding. Half parchment and grey cloth binding is lightly soiled and toned all over, though gilt spine titling is sharp and rather bright. Light casewear to edges. Interior has scattered foxing and soiling, heavier to some illustrations. Binding tight.
