Je dois ajouter que, dans sa jeunesse, Talma a écrit quelques pièces et que, plus tard, il a remanié plusieurs tragédies, notamment l'Hamlet de Ducis, son ami. J'ai vu passer, il y a quatre ans, en vente publique, une lettre à Talma, datée de 1786 (il avait alors 23 ans), dans laquelle il dit avoir une pièce de théâtre à l'examen et d'autres en tête". Jointe contrecollée en tête le duplicata de la lettre du Général Brunon adressée à Jules Claretie, Directeur du théâtre de la Comédie-Française : "Monsieur, je possède le manuscrit d'une tragédie en trois actes de Talma qui est je crois inédite. Elle porte le titre de Gunide [ ? ] et faisait parti d'un recueil plus volumineux puisque la pagination de la tragédie ne commence qu'à 574 pour finir à la page 688 sur laquelle est écrit le mot : Fin. La page 573 termine une pièce de vers qui semble faite à l'occasion du couronnement de Napoléon Ier. Le mot fin n'y figure pas ce qui paraît indiquer que la tragédie termine le recueil des oeuvres de Talma. Étant naturellement désireux d'avoir à ce sujet des renseignements plus complets, je ne saurais mieux faire que de m'adresser à votre obligeance pour les obtenir. Le Théâtre-Français doit en effet posséder des données sur ce qu'a pu faire l'artiste admirable [ . ] Bon état.
