Third edition (first published London, 1901). Octavo. Red gilt-titled cloth; xxx,468pp. Light wear and soil; internally clean, tight and unmarked. A Very Good copy. New Preface for this edition by Francis Neilson. Max Hirsch (1852-1909), a German-born economist who, after emigrating to Australia, became the leading exponent of Henry George's Single Tax theory; he founded the Victorian Single Tax League in 1890. This, his principal work, is much-beloved by opponents of socialism; though it was reprinted regularly through the sixties, the printings were small (befitting a somewhat abstruse economic treatise), making the book somewhat uncommon today.
