Binding in overall good, interior in good- to very good condition. Volume 2 is slightly darkened along spine, otherwise in very good condition. Interior also in very good condition. Volume 3 is also slightly darkened along spine, otherwise in very good condition. Interior in very good condition. Volume 4: Binding darkened along spine, with some age-toning / light water-staing to covers. Some light to darker water-staining from page 489 on. Pages slightly rippled due to damp exposure. Binding in overall good- to good, interior in fair/good- to very good condition. Text in Dutch. About the author: Gerard Brandt (1626-1685) was a Dutch preacher, playwright, poet, church historian, biographer and naval historian. A well-known writer in his own time, his works include a Life of Michiel de Ruyter (1687, "Het Leven en bedryf van den Heere Michiel de Ruiter" - an important source on the admiral's life) and a "Historie der vermaerde zee- en koopstadt Enkhuisen" (1666, - still an important source for that city's early history).
