Five studio still photographs, one of which is a compilation photograph of two images, from the 1979 re-release of the 1959 film. Based on the story "La Bell au bois Dormant" ("The Sleeping Beauty") from the 1697 book "Histoires ou contes du temps passe," by Charles Perrault, which laid the foundation for the fairy tale, deriving the tales from earlier folk tales. Walt Disney's last adaptation of a fairy tale in his lifetime, due to lackluster boxoffice performance and mixed critical response, largely because of similarities with 1937 "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," now an undeniable classic in the Disney's pantheon of animated features. Nominated for an Academy Award. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine. National Film Registry.
