Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. A handsome postwar example of one of the enduring popular songs of 1949, "The Old Master Painter" was composed by Beasley Smith with lyrics by celebrated songwriter Haven Gillespie. The song became a major hit through recordings by Vaughn Monroe and other leading vocalists, its poetic lyrics comparing the beauty of nature to the work of a divine artist. The striking monochromatic purple cover, featuring Monroe's portrait, captures the elegant graphic style of late-1940s commercial music publishing. Interior pages include ukulele chord diagrams, reflecting the widespread popularity of home music-making during the era, while the rear cover advertises Robbins Music Corporation's extensive "Mammoth" instructional and songbook series. Condition: Very Good. Complete with a sound spine fold and no detached pages. Interior music remains clean and fully legible. Moderate age toning, light handling wear, minor corner creasing, and a few tiny edge nicks consistent with age. No writing, stamps, or significant tears observed. An attractive, well-preserved copy suitable for both collectors and musicians. First separate sheet music edition, copyright 1949 by Robbins Music Corporation, New York. Original Vaughn Monroe photographic cover present, identifying this as the contemporary promotional issue issued during the song's initial popularity. Beasley Smith (1901-1968) was an American composer, arranger, conductor, and radio personality. After beginning his career as a pianist and orchestra leader, he became a successful songwriter and music executive. His best-known composition, "The Old Master Painter," became a major American standard in 1949, recorded by Vaughn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, and many others. Smith later served in music publishing and broadcasting, leaving a lasting mark on mid-century American popular music. Haven Gillespie (1888-1975) was one of America's most successful lyricists of the Tin Pan Alley era. Although immortalized by "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" (1934), he also wrote lyrics for hundreds of popular songs recorded by Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Vaughn Monroe, and numerous other stars. His work helped define American popular music from the 1920s through the early television era, making his original sheet music consistently collectible. Vaughn Monroe (1911-1973) was among America's leading orchestra leaders and baritone vocalists during the 1940s and 1950s. Nicknamed "The Voice of RCA," he sold millions of records with hits including "Riders in the Sky," "Ballerina," and "The Old Master Painter." His distinctive deep voice and nationally broadcast radio programs made him one of the defining popular entertainers of the postwar period, and sheet music featuring his portrait remains highly collectible.…
