No date [but circa 1923]. A solid reading copy, and an interesting variant for the bibliographically inclined. Clean, square, tight, unmarked copy. No o…wner's name or bookplate. Inner hinges are perfectly sound. Illustrated with 5 plates by Frank Gillett, R. I., including a full-color frontispiece. As normal with this edition, there is no publisher's catalogue at the end. Front cover features a colorful knight in armor (in red, black, green, and tan). Another knight, holding a large sword, appears on the spine. This appears to be a variant of Newbolt 20.4, published about 1923, as part of The New Popular Henty series. In this copy, the list of Henty's books on page 2 includes 56 titles (Newbolt 20.4 calls for 45). This copy lacks the printer's imprint at the foot of page 352. It also differs slightly from Newbolt 20.4 in that the title page imprint reads "London and Glasgow" rather than "London Glasgow Bombay." Bound in the original green, pictorial cloth. Illustrated endpapers have horses in brown ink. Frontal matter has browntone illustrations. The text block ends are dark green. Cover: ends of spine are softened; one corner is rubbed through to the board; front joint is faded; a third of the the back board has a stain; the illustrations have rubbed spots; shelf wear soiling. The endpapers are cracked over the hinges; the hinges have been repaired, but it is difficult to see the type of repair. Three of the color plates each have a 1/8 in. rubbed spot on an edge.
