Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. 1st Edition. Good in fair dust jacket. SIGNED and inscribed/dated "To Al, thank you for your encouragement. Sorry Donning didn't use your generous quote! Love" by the author on the title page. No stated edition or numberline (1st printing). Dust jacket has heavy edgewear. Book would be near fine except for a chip taken out of the top edge of the front board. A signed typewritten letter stating much the same as the inscription addressed to Al Young (the late novelist and former Poet Laureate of California) is laid in. The debut, "a novel of ancient witchcraft and modern terrorism" by the late president of the Horror Writers Association and Bram Stoker Award-winning author (AKA Janet Berliner) of the Madagascar Manifesto series and "Swan Luka". A rare book, especially signed. Where possible, all books come with dust jacket in a clear protective plastic sleeve, sealed in a ziplock bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a box. Signed by Author(s).

Condizione: FINE. Uncorrected proof (trade paperback format. ) Described as 'an alternate Holocaust fantasy.' - "The German High command at one point seriously advocated something called the Madagascar Plan, in which Jews would not be exterminated but settled on Madagascar. This proceeds as though that had happened. Hitler rises and there are still death camps, but the Jewish future becomes subtler and more compromised, as various Jews seek appeasement with the Nazis for promise of a homeland. The narrative is told through the points of view of two childhood friends, Solomon Freund, a Jew, and Erich Weisser, a Catholic, whose fathers are partners in a tobacco shop. Both are dreamy, gentle boys; Sol has a mystical bent, while Erich has a special empathy with animals. They grow up, fall in love with the same girl, and are torn apart by the violent currents of history. Erich becomes a Nazi, head of the Canine Corps. Sol, the most important character, becomes a scholar and a bit of a mystic." (Kirkus) Fine in printed gray wrappers.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very well received book (advance praise on the jacket comes from the likes of Marion Zimmer Bradley, Greg Bear and Peter S. Beagle), and a novel which became the first part of "The Madagascar Manifesto Trilogy", followed by "Child of the Journey" and "Children of the Dusk". It's a hard saga to categorize. The books contain elements of fantasy, science fiction and horror (the Horror Writers Association honored the final part with the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in the novel category). But it really fits into none of these genres. It's an alternative history - a "what if" story imagining that the real, but unfulfilled, Nazi "Madagascar Plan" of rounding up all the Jews of Europe during World War II and relocating them to the island of Madagascar, actually happened. And the main characters of the trilogy have so much story to live through against that backdrop. This copy of the first printing is signed by co-author George Guthridge on the front endpaper: "Warm winters - George Guthridge". It's a near fine copy in a very good, slightly browned and edgeworn dust jacket with a small, faint area of damp staining to bottom edge and signs of a label removed from front panel. Loosely inserted in the book is a publisher's promotional postcard. Signed by Author(s).
