Governor Cadwallader Colden and Messrs: Horsmaden, Smith, Watts, De Lancey, Reade, and Morris, assembled to discuss land matters and deferred grants, in part: ".It is ordered by his Honour the Lieutenant Governor, with the advice of the Council that the Grant of the three-thousand acres of land so Surveyed for the said Captain John Small do pass the Seals - and it being represented to the Board that some part of the Tract of Land which in Pursuance of his Majesty's Order of the 23rd May 1764, hath been Surveyed for James Napier Esquire, Inspector and Director General of his Majesty's Hospitals in North America.It is also Ordered that the Grant to the said James Napier Esquire, do pass the Seals Reserving to the persons in actual possession all the Lands they have improved, not exceeding two-hundred acres each, to be laid as nearly in the form of a square as may be - anything in the said caveat to the contrary Notwithstanding - A True Copy." Mounted on a slightly larger sheet with one small break at center fold strengthened on the back; otherwise in very good condition. Provenance: Mary Benjamin Autographs with transcript in her tell-tale brown type on yellow bond paper. Colonial Secretary of New York who was able to survive the Revolutionary War with his holdings intact. He was the father-in-law of Maria Jay, daughter of John Jay, who devoted her life to taking care of him from 1806 until his death.
