Helios Gómez (Sevilla, 1905-Barcelona, 1956) fue un artista revolucionario que destacó como pintor y dibujante, además de como anarquista. Exiliado en Europa durante la dictadura de Primo de Rivera, se formó en las corrientes vanguardistas de los años veinte y regresó a España con la proclamación de la Segunda República. En la década de 1930 trabajó en la prensa catalana y se pasó a las filas comunistas. Publicó álbumes como Días de ira o Viva Octubre. Durante la guerra civil, fue comisario político y luchó en varios frentes. Se exilió en 1939 y conoció los campos de concentración franceses y del norte de África, para volver a España en 1942. Tras años encarcelado en la Modelo, donde pintó La Capilla Gitana, murió en Barcelona en 1956. Póstumamente, se publicó su obra poética. . . Esther Lázaro Sanz es Doctora en Filología Española, especialista en exilio republicano, en teatro contemporáneo y en periodismo cultural de la Segunda República, guerra civil y franquismo. Actualmente es investigadora postdoctoral en la Avignon Université. Ha publicado trabajos en revistas especializadas y en obras colectivas, y se ha encargado, entre otras, de las ediciones del monólogo De algún tiempo a esta parte, de Max Aub (Renacimiento, 2018) y de El texto insumiso, de José Sanchis Sinisterra (2018). Helios Gomez (19051956) was a Spanish painter and anarchist activist. He is considered to be one of the most influential Spanish graphic artists of the first half of the 20th Century. Gomez was the first president and founder of the professional draftsmen syndicate in 1936 in Barcelona. The goal of the syndicate was to defend the Republic through activist graphic posters. He fought in the Spanish Civil War and was part of the "Retirada," a massive migration of some 500,000 Spanish warriors to France. He was deported to Algeria held in a concentration camp, but managed to escape to Spain. In 1946 he was arrested and jailed without trial or conviction in Barcelona. Gomez is also known for his fresco in the Barcelona jail (Virgin of Mercy), located near the cell where prisoners were held who had been sentenced to death. He was to be discharged in 1950, but released only in 1954. Helios Gómez Rodríguez (19051956) was an Andalusian painter, anarchist communist activist and writer. Born into a working class Calé family, he worked as a painter for the Spanish anarchist movement from an early age. His involvement in the movement forced him to flee Spain, and during his time in Europe he developed his artistic influences and was alerted to the rise of fascism. Upon his return to Spain, he joined the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), seeing it as the force that was best organised to resist fascism. By the end of the Spanish Civil War, he returned to anarchism, but was forced to flee following the victory of the Nationalists. From the 1940s, when he was imprisoned by the Francoist dictatorship, he began focusing on his writing and presenting Romani themes through his creative work. His poetry was collected and published posthumously in 2006.

Ouvrage préfacé par Jean Cassou et illustré de 20 bois gravé de Helios Gomez (1905-1956), libertaire espagnol d'origine gitane et andalouse, artiste et poète. Il participa à la guerre civile, fut interné dans des camps, fut exilé entre autres en Belgique. Il mourut dans une prison de Barcelone après 8 années d'emprisonnement.
