Noch nicht einmal ein Dutzen…d Tarot-Decks aus der Anfangszeit ist einigermaßen vollständig erhalten. Das vorliegende Buch beschreibt die Entstehung der ersten Tarot-Karten. Jede Karte des Visconti-Tarot wird erklärt und gedeutet. Im "Tarot der Idioten" spielen im Jahre 1924 der berüchtigte Magier Crowley und der ebenso berüchtigte Guru Gurdjieff im Pariser Café de la Paix ein philosophisches Tarot-Spiel mit Visconti-Sforza-Tarotkarten. Diese Karten gehören zu den ältesten Tarotkarten, denn sie stammen aus dem 15. Jahrhundert der italienischen Renaissance. Ein noch älterer Tarot aus noch früherer Zeit ist nicht bekannt. Den heute üblichen okkulten (esoterischen) Tarot, wie etwa den beliebten Waite- oder Crowley-Tarot und andere, gibt es erst seit dem 19. Jahrhundert. Der Visconti-Sforza-Tarot und andere Tarotspiele aus der Renaissance zeigen noch keine okkulten Symbole, ihre Symbolik ist mittelalterlich, klassisch, höfisch und ritterlich. Und sie sind wunderschön, jede Karte ist ein kleines Gemälde. Das Buch von Berti und Gonard, das ähnlich wie das Buch "Visconti-Tarot" von Johannes Fiebig aufgebaut ist (vorliegendes Buch von Berti und Gonard (1999) diente für Fiebigs Buch (2007) als Vorlage), gibt auf 120 Seiten eine gute und trotz ihrer Kürze umfassende Einführung in den Visconti-Sforza-Tarot. Eine kurze Geschichte der Karten und der Entstehungszeit wird geboten, ebenso die Beschreibung verschiedener Legetechniken. Jede Karte ist abgebildet und mit Deutungen sowie Orakel-Bedeutungen versehen. Sorgfältig ausgesuchte Literaturhinweise sind ebenfalls vorhanden. Das Visconti Tarot ist eines der ältesten Tarot Decks (um 1450), das nicht mehr vollständig überliefert ist und dessen noch existierende Teile an mehreren Orten aufbewahrt werden. Bei dem Deck hier handelt es sich durchgängig um Wiedergaben durch Atanas Atanassov, der die fehlenden Karten (Turm,… Teufel, Schwert 3, Ritter der Münzen) stilgetreu ersetzt hat. Das Deck ist meiner Meinung nach prachtvoll und wirklich gut gelungen. Die Bilder sind sehr schön und fast trügerisch simpel, das Gold schimmert einem förmlich entgegen und macht das Deck damit zu etwas ganz Besonderem. Jede Karte hat auf der Seite die Bezeichnung in mehreren Sprachen. Das ist zwar sehr dezent gemacht, für die kleinen Arkana wäre das nicht notwendig gewesen und für die großen hätte die Zahl auch gereicht. Der Rücken ist schlicht gehalten, mit einem Renaissance Ornament. Die kleinen Arkana (bis auf die Hofkarten) haben keine Bilder, sondern bestehen nur aus der entsprechenden Anzahl von Symbolen (Schwerter, Stäbe, Münzen, Kelche). Das Deck ist nicht nur von historischem Interesse, sondern auch sehr gut für das Legen geeignet, wenngleich man dann die Bedeutung der kleinen Arkana wissen muß, weil sie nicht aus dem Bild erahnt werden kann. Man kann aber auch nur mit den großen Arkana legen.
