Aggiungi al carrelloOriginal 23 page carbon typescript on onionskin paper bound in blue cardstock studio covers. Fine condition. An historic piece showing the struggles David O. Selznick endured trying the create the best screenplay for his classic film. This manuscript written by Bradford Foote compares and points out the differences between the screenplay written by Sidney Howard with a screenplay version written by Foote. The Ransom Center at the University of Texas which holds the archives of David O. Selznick writes ÒIn October 1938, Selznick sent the Sidney Howard script to two top MGM scriptwriters, Lawrence Stallings and Bradbury Foote, for help editing. The men, under confidentiality, had eight days to make their suggestions. FooteÕs editing gave the film a happy ending, destroying one of the novelÕs most emotionally powerful scenes. In FooteÕs rewrite, Rhett does indeed leave, but Mammy thrashes the famous ÒTomorrow is another day!Ó speech, telling Scarlett, ÒNever you mind tomorrow, honey. This here is today! There goes your man!Ó The scene dissolves to a shot of a railroad station. Scarlett corners Rhett in the car of a train, entreating, ÒOh, Rhett! Life is just beginning for us! CanÕt you see it is? WeÕve both been blind, stupid fools! But weÕre still young! We can make up for those wasted years! Oh, RhettÑlet me make them up to you! Please! Please!Ó He kisses her hands, and the scene fades out. Selznick considered this rewrite Òawful.Ó.…
