Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intricate world of the ancient Greek epic poem, the Argonautica, through the lens of the literary techniques employed by its author, Apollonius Rhodius. The author situates Apollonius within the broader context of Greek literature, exploring his work as a conscious imitation of Homer's epics. The book delves into Apollonius's masterful use of language, syntax, and poetic devices to craft a narrative that echoes the grandeur of the Iliad and Odyssey. A particular focus is placed on the author's use of similes and temporal syntax, revealing his deep understanding and emulation of Homeric techniques. Beyond the analysis of Apollonius's literary prowess, the book explores the thematic richness of the Argonautica. It uncovers the diverse interpretations of the work's central themes, which revolve around the interplay of fate, human agency, and the pursuit of glory. The author's insights shed new light on the poem's enduring relevance and its exploration of timeless human experiences. This book is a valuable resource for scholars and enthusiasts of ancient Greek literature. Its meticulous analysis of Apollonius's literary artistry and exploration of the Argonautica's thematic depth provide a deeper appreciation for this underappreciated masterpiece of Greek epic poetry. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

About the author: François Joseph Chabas (1817-1882) was a French Egyptologist who came from a modest background, studied at Chalon and became a wine merchant. Self-taught, Chabas learned Latin, Greek and other languages. Interested in anthropology, he turned to study Old Egyptian languages. Chabas was a member of several learned societies and later president of the Conseil departemental of Saône-et-Loire. Between 1876 and 1880, he edited the journal "L'Égyptologie." His works have contributed much to elucidate the history of the invasion and repulsion of the Hyksos in Egypt. Chabas was elected a foreign member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1865. (From Wikipedia).
