A doença, que se espalhou rapidamente por todo o estado, é designada como uma 'Doença Epidemiológica ou Doença Contagiosa'. Puna largamente afectada pela doença da gripe suína. O aparecimento de sintomas durante esse período pode facilmente infectar outras pessoas. O vírus da gripe suína A (H1N1) é contagioso e está a espalhar-se de humano para humano. Também centros comerciais e multiplexes tinham sido fechados na cidade de Pune; Rida Shaikh foi encontrada com gripe suína positiva e 1ª morte a 4 de Agosto de 2009 na Índia, bem como na cidade de Pune.
