Color plates showing the fishermen, the lures employed to catch these enormous salmon, fish caught, the unique boats and methods employed to fish for Tyee, and the trophies and pins awarded for the various weight classes. Sepia toned photos. This is Van's vivid account of the world-famous Tyee Club - its origins, the people who made it so, and Van's personal memories guiding and fishing for Tyee. Laid-in the book is a typed letter signed by Van Egan and it's addressed to me. In the letter, Van writes about our work on the Haig-Brown bibliography and the never-ending research minutiae associated with it; he also enclosed his poem "When Tyeemen Met with the Tide, a homage to the fishermen staying at the Spit Camp in the early 1930s." Roderick Haig-Brown was an honorary member of the club, and he also guided for it briefly in the 1930s. The book is bound in full burgundy leather with gilt titles. The Tyee Club color logo is printed on the limitation page. Matching burgundy leather and cloth slip case. A beautiful book. Fine in a fine slip case. The letter and essay in fine condition.

Both volumes with a typed section of the original manuscript with corrections in Van's hand, laid-in. Black and white photos. This is Van's loving account of his friendship with the Haig-Browns, and his comradery with Roderick and their fishing the streams and lakes on Vancouver Island. Both volumes have a fold-out booklet in a back pocket showing the Haig-Brown flies utilized in the book, two maps of the Nimpkish River, and a 1956 color cover photo of the April 1956 issue of Sports Illustrated featuring Van hooking a brown trout. This limited edition is based on Van's initial inventory of Haig-Brown's tackle made in 1978. Living on the south bank of the Campbell River, Van Egan and the Haig-Browns were dear friends and neighbors for many years.
