No Binding. Condizione: Very Good. Year 1820s-1840s Medium: engraving with aquatint Dimensions: 41.5 x 30.2 inches (including text) This print after the Horace Vernet painting displays the climax of the battle that began on March 14, 1814 at the gates of Clichy, located in a northwestern suburb of Paris, France. Upon this invasion of Paris by the combined allies of England, Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Sweden, Marshal Moncey (who was at the time recently named second in command of the Parisian National Guard) fought bravely and loyally alongside his troops, trying to take down these invading forces. Vernet portrays an interesting dynamic by juxtaposing that of the soldiers and that of the french people, revealing a powerful cause and effect created by the battle.
