Overall, this is a solid, tight, Good+ copy with additional images available by request. (Titling stamped to spine shows Vol. 20, Partie 1, while the title states Partie 2).

Le manuscrit, concerne l'histoire de onze groupes ethniques malgaches, dont on trouvera les noms sur la couverture. En sont exclus : les Sakalava et les groupements du Sud-Est, Antambahoaka, Antaifasy, Antaisaka et Antaimoro, qui feront l'objet du deuxième fascicule. Celui-ci paraîtra ultérieurement sous la signature du gouverneur Deschamps. Published in La Revue de Madagascar 16; but this is a separately paginated offprint. Provenance: the stamp of the author, "Bibliothèque Raymond Decary", and that of Alain Weiss "Ingénieur" in the top margin of the front wrapper. Stain on front wrapper, weaker on the next two leaves, otherwise a very good, clean copy.

Well-illustrated, with several maps and photographical plates. The authors, father and son Alfred (1836-1921) and Guillaume (1873-1957) were the foremost explorers of Madagascar. They edited and published the famous, authoritative, Histoire Physique, Naturelle et Politique de Madagascar, which was published between 1875 and 1958 and written by the Grandidiers together with many specialists in diverse fields of zoology and botany. All parts are rare. This is the complete part on the origin of the various groups of inhabitants, including both "indigenous" people and "foreigners". The maps are excellent; the largest very detailed. Uncut. Light foxing to about half the text pages, otherwise very good, unmarked. All parts are rare. No other copies available on the internet.
