Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. 3rd Edition. xxv, 322 pages : illustrations ; 29 cm. A perfect copy. Of special interest are the four pages (183-186) listing the graves of the victims of Alfred Packer and describing how the bodies were found. Alfred Griner "Alferd" Packer was a prospector who admitted to having eaten several people… while snow bound during the winter of 1874 in the Colorado rockies. The judge at the conclusion of his trial is reputed to have said: "When yah came to Hinsdale County, there was siven Dimmycrats. But you, yah et five of 'em, goddam yah. I sintince yah t' be hanged by th' neck ontil yer dead, dead, dead, as a warnin' ag'in reducin' th' Dimmycratic populayshun of this county. Packer, you Republican cannibal, I would sintince ya ta hell but the statutes forbid it." (from Alfred "Alferd" Packer: The Cannibal of Lake City, Colorado). More interesting than most cemetery records.
