Rough cut pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, creased corners and foxing. Hinges are cracked, with some exposed netting and a loose binding. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

The comic romance is a satire on the itinerant and illiterate preachers among the Methodists. It follows the religious and romantic adventures of its hero, a young Oxford man, who, living in retirement with his mother in the country, decides to become an evangelist, although mainly from the lack of any other more interesting occupation. This is the 9th. edition (1858) of Graves on the Pentateuch, leather bound with five raised bands and sharp gilt titles to the spine and simple decorations to the spine and boards. There is minor rubbing to the edges of the boards but this copy would grace any library. Internally there is spotting to the prelims but the main text block is extremely clean and sharp. For its age the book is in excellent condition.
