Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. For almost all parents, most of the time, digital parenting is a recipe for uncertainty and concern.Digital media is sometimes blamed for stunting early language development; other times it's lauded for supporting children's language and imaginations. Restricting access is thought to protect children, but research suggests that fostering responsible internet use is more effective. What is the way forward, through the dire warnings and doubts? Is there a possible policy reset that allows parents to worry less?In the wake of Australia's social media ban, Lelia Green draws on many years of research into digital parenting to examine online safety and screen time in the digital age. First-time parents often discuss schooling, religion and diet, but rarely talk about how to parent with technology. Parents can guide their child on a digital journey to become confident, competent internet users.Professor Lelia Green is Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child at Edith Cowan University, where she leads a team of researchers from across health, education and social welfare. Green was an early pioneer of research with children (rather than about children) and has been chief investigator on international projects including on toddlers' internet use. She has consulted for UNESCO Asia-Pacific and belongs to several international networks, including the European Commissionfunded DigiLitEY and EU Kids Online. Green serves on the editorial board of leading publication Journal of Children and Media. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The easy interface of touchscreen technologies like tablets and smartphones has enabled children to access the digital world from a very young age. But while some commentators are enthusiastic about how this can open a new world for fun, learning, and developing digital skills, others see the dangers of yet more screens, inauthentic play, and time spent isolated with electronic babysitters that detract from interaction with parents and learning social skills. Taking five as the age when children transition into formal education, this book draws on a three-year research project examining the realities of under six-year-olds experiences of these technologies in the UK and Australia. With a theoretical context including Vygotsky, Bruner, Bronfenbrenner and Flewitt, the book examines how parents of young children evaluate the opportunities and risks of childrens digital media use in the context of other significant influences such as childrens time with grandparents, early childhood care and education. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 22 families, and rich ethnographic data from observation and exchanges with their 29 children, aged four months to five years, the book reveals how digital technologies complement and challenge important aspects of daily life for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Presents new research on and addresses concerns about young childrens digital activities. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
