hardcover. Condizione: Fine copy in fine dust jacket. Illus. by Kate Greenaway (illustratore). 1st. Tall 8vo, 144 pp.
Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. Illus. By The Author (illustratore). Bright yellow cloth embossed with a garden trellis and gilt title spine. 96 pp glossy text crisp and unmarked. Unclipped original dj in new mylar has no faults. No artist has caught the innocent charm of childhood as winningly as this Victorian spinster. Her children's books, with their winsome girls and boys dressed in quaint eighteenth-century frocks and breeches, took London by storm in the 1870s and '80s, and the rest of the world followed. The "Kate Greenaway style" influenced children's clothing for at least a generation and was worn by turn-of-the-century tots as dissimilar as American dancer Isadora Duncan and Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. Among the 80 or more books, almanacs, diaries, and calendars illustrated by Kate Greenaway, Mother Goose or The Old Nursery Rhymes, published in 1881, has been one of the most enduring. It has been reissued countless times, the charming illustrations losing some of their brightness and clarity over the years, Now, after more than a century, the never-before-published complete facsimile pages of the artist's two sketchbooks, in which she predesigned her little masterpiece are presented here for the first time in a single volume, the work as crisp and colorful as the day it was made. Kate, ever the perfectionist, had plotted the design of her pages, executing watercolor illustrations almost as precisely as they would be in the actual book, with the text lightly penciled in. Occasionally there is a little marginal note with instructions to herself.
Condizione: Very Good. Illus. By The Author (illustratore). Hardcover in a bright dust jacket, 95 pages. 77 beautiful full color illustrations. Foreword by Bernard McTigue, Introduction by Rodney Engen. Like new. After more than a century, the never-before-published complete facsimile pages of the artist's two sketchbooks, in which she designed this little masterpiece, are presented in a single volume, the work as crisp and colourful as the day it was made. Record # 372220.

Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. Illus. By The Author (illustratore). First Edition, First Printing. A collection of traditional nursery rhymes with watercolor illustrations. Includes a history of Kate Greenaway's sketchbooks and of her art in general. No Flaws or Blemishes but minimal shelf handling; with a price-clipped Mylar protected Dust Jacket which has a minor rub on the top edge near the front corner. . Catherine (Kate) Greenaway (1846-1901) was an English Victorian artist and writer, known for her children's book illustrations. She began her career designing for the burgeoning holiday card market, producing Christmas and Valentine's cards. In 1879 wood-block engraver and printer, Edmund Evans, printed Under the Window, an instant best-seller, which established her reputation. Her collaboration with Evans continued throughout the 1880s and 1890s. The depictions of children in imaginary 18th-century costumes in a Queen Anne style were extremely popular in England and internationally, sparking the Kate Greenaway style. Within a few years of the publication of Under the Window Greenaway's work was imitated in England, Germany and the United States. Fine Hardcover in a Near Fine Dust Jacket.
