FINE, 1st American edition(1897 copyright) / 2nd printing 1910 (stated), dark green cloth w gilt decorative logo on front cover and gilt font on spine, all quite bright, 438 pps, frontispiece and illustrations by G. Grenville Manton. Very handsome copy without writing, marks, square and tight spine, corners are bumped. A Napoleonic soldier enlisted as a private under the name Champdivers, after his capture by the British. "Stevenson had written all but the very conclusion of this work at the time of his death. His stepdaughter had been serving as his secretary and was in possession of an outline for the ending. In order to conclude the story the publisher enlisted the talents of Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch who supplied the last few chapters.'.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good-. Illustrated by G. Grenville Manton (illustratore). John Oxenham was the pseudonymn of British poet William Arthur Dunkerley (1852 - 1941). This novel was probably published after 1904, but that is the only date in the book. It is bound in the publisher's orginal decorated gray cloth binding with white spine and cover lettering and an image of two sailing ships on the front cover. There is a light crease to the first 6 leaves in the lower insice corner and a tiny tear (about 1/8" to three pages at top, probably from careless packing at some time), else a clean, tight book with no interior or exterior markings. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 366 pages.
