Marcel Griaule (1898-1956) compte parmi les plus grands ethnologues de ce siècle. Initié par Marcel Mauss il entreprit une première mission en 1927 en Ethiopie puis obtint le vote d'une loi spéciale pour la fameuse mission Dakar-Djibouti en 1931. Par la suite il fera de nombreux séjours sur le terrain dans différentes régions d'Afrique surtout chez les Dogon. Titulaire de la première chaire d'ethnologie créée en France à la Sorbonne en 1942 il devint en 1947 conseiller de l'Union française. Good.
