Primarily he does it as a naturalist, to study their behaviour, and the stories in this book are full of information. Whether he is writing about Ula, or about the dachsunds of his acquinatance (one of them, Mond, used to take himself for taxi rides), or even about coypus, or about elephants, or about horses, he is always as instructive as he is entertaining.
