Neuware -This topical issue of the Journal of Pure and Applied Geophysics (PAAG) on ice fog, ice clouds, and remote sensing focuses on cold fog and ice cloud microphysics and dynamics in earth¿s boundary layer. The measurements from state of art in-situ instruments, remote sensing platforms, and simulation results from numerical weather prediction (NWP) models are used in this book.Use of remote sensing platforms, including satellites, radiometers, ceilometers, sodars, and lidars, as well as in-situ sensors for the monitoring, and short term forecasting of cold fog and ice clouds are required to improve present knowledge. The new scientific challenges in addition to present knowledge on cold fog and ice clouds are also considered. University students, postgraduates, and researchers interested in cold fog and ice clouds, related to forecasting and nowcasting, aviation meteorology, remote sensing, climate, hydrometeorology, and agriculture meteorology can benefit extensively from this topical issue.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 244 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This topical issue of the Journal of Pure and Applied Geophysics focuses on research related to dew and various types of fog occurring around the globe which was presented on July 25-30, 2010, at the 5th International Conference on Fog, Fog Collection, and Dew in Münster, Germany. The areas of knowledge in this field include surface in-situ and remote sensing observations of fog, dew, fog collection, applications of the various fog models (such as 1D, 2D, and 3D fog and forecasting models), microphysical parameterizations, and climatology. This volume gives a very good review of the existing knowledge and highlights the remaining difficulties in predicting and measuring fog at various scales of time and space. It also represents an important step in the direction of addressing new scientific challenges in fog and dew related research, teaching, and operational applications. Students as well as researchers, who are interested either in fog, in association with cloud physics, physical meteorology, aviation meteorology, climatology, weather forecasting and nowcasting, or in other adjacent disciplines like hydrometeorology, environment, and agriculture, will benefit from consulting and reading this topical issue. This publication was significantly supported by the Canadian National Search And Rescue (SAR) Secretariat by funding the Fog Remote Sensing and Modeling (FRAM) Project led by Dr. Ismail Gultepe since 2005.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This Topical Volume focuses on aviation meteorology for operationsand research, covering important topics related to wind and turbulence, visibility, fog and precipitation, convection and lightning, icing, blowing snow, and ice cloud microphysics and dynamics. In addition to forecasting issues, the impact of climate on aviation operations is also highlighted, as temperature and moisture changes can affect aircraft aerodynamic conditions, such as lift and drag forces. This work uses measurements from state of art in-situ instruments and simulation results from numerical weather prediction (NWP) and climate models. New technologies related to satellites, radars, lidars, and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are described, as well as new analysis methods related to artificial intelligence (AI) and neural network systems. Use of remote sensing platforms, including satellites, radars, radiometers, ceilometers, sodars, and lidars, as well as knowledge of the in-situ observations for the monitoring and short-term forecasting of wind, turbulence, gust, clear air turbulence (CAT), low visibility due to fog and clouds, and precipitation types are required for aviation operations at the airports and high level flyingconditions. This book provides extensive knowledge foraviation-related meteorological processes and events that include short and long term prediction ofhigh impact weather systems.Aviation experts, weather offices, pilots, university students, postgraduates, and researchers interested in aviation and meteorology, including new instruments for measurements applicable to forecasting andnowcasting, can benefit from consulting and reading this book. This book provides a comprehensive overview of our existing knowledgeand the numerous remaining difficulties in predicting and measuring issuesrelated to wind and turbulence, convection, fog and visibility, variouscloud types, icing, and ice clouds at various time and space scales.Previously published inPure and Applied Geophysics,Volume 176, Issue 5, 2019.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The e ect of fog on human life was recognized in the early ages of mankind but its impact has signi cantly increased during recent decades due to increasing air, marine, and road tra c. In fact, the nancial and human losses related to fog and low visibility became comparable to the losses from other weather events, e.g., tornadoes or, in some situations, even hurricanes. The purpose of this review is to summarize the earlier works on fog and to lay a basis for the articles presented in this special issue and outline perspectives for future fog research. The earliest works on fog can be traced back to Aristotle's Meteorologica (284- 322 B.C.). These were extensively referenced by NEUMANN (1989) in his study of early works on fog and weather. This paragraph is mainly based on his detailed work. In the English translation by H.D.P. Lee (1962, ARISTOTLE), a statement is given on the relationship between fog and good weather. Also, NEUMANN (1989) relates a poem by ARATUS (315-240 B.C.), which was referred to as Prognostication Through Weather Signs, in an English translation by G.R. Mair (ARATUS, 1921).
