Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. The various sectional title-pages show publication dates of 1813, 1826 & 1829, front engraved title-page shows 1821, and the engravings throughout are dated 1824-26. Contemporary full calf, gilt; marbled endpapers. Moderate wear to extremities, some rubbing as loss to gilding. Edges toned, and text sits somewhat proud in binding. Otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. A very neat little Bible, much in its original state. Pasted inside front cover is a gilt plate indicating the wedding of "James. Elizabeth. Taylor. 6. June. 1828." A later obituary clipping for James Paylor is neatly pasted inside rear cover. "James and Elizabeth (Beattie) Taylor, came to this country from Scotland in 1837, and first settled in St. Andrews. Mr Taylor was employed, soon after his arrival, as foreman of Commissary Forbes, Carillon; and as the Rebellion was then in progress, in going to and from his work, was daily challenged by sentinels posted between the two villages, and compelled to give the password. He afterward removed to Ile aux Chats, where he died in 1883; Mrs. Taylor died in 1888. They had four sons and six daughters." [p. 177 in C. Thomas: History of the Counties of Argenteuil, Que., and Prescott, Ont. (Montreal 1896)].
