Seit alters stand der Verkehr innerhalb und nach Tibet vor großen Schwierigkeiten, einziges Transportmittel waren Lasttier und Mensch. Im Winter waren die Wege monatelang wegen Schnee und Eis unpassierbar. Damals wurden kaiserliche Edikte der verschiedenen Dynastien und Berichte der lokalen Regierung Tibets an den Thron von Kurieren zu Pferd überbracht. Im Landesinneren Chinas hatte man daher kaum klare Vorstellungen über Tibet. Nach 1949 wurden die Landstraßen Sichuan - Tibet, Qinghai -Tibet und Xinjiang -Tibet angelegt, und es ist ein Straßennetz mit Lhasa als Zentrum entstanden. Wohl als "verbotene Linie für den Luftverkehr beschrieben, wurde 1956 eine Flugverbindung zu Lhasa hergestellt ein Flug von Chengdu der Provinz Sichuan nach Lhasa dauert heute zwei Stunden! Dies alles hat sowohl für die wirtschaftliche und kulturelle Entwicklung Tibets als auch für das Verständnis der Bevölkerung des Landesinneren der tibetischen Kultur gegenüber günstige Voraussetzungen geschaffen. Die Fotos über alte tibetische Architektur in diesem Buch spiegeln die Entwicklung der Kultur Tibets in der Vergangenheit wider. Tibet ist reich an Kulturdenkmälern, nicht alle davon konnten hier aufgenommen werden. Dieser Bildband zielt jedoch auf einen Überblick über die Entwicklung der tibetischen Kultur ab. Um den Ursprung und die Entwicklung der Gelben Sekte des Lamaismus zu erklären, ist auch das Kloster Ta'er der Provinz Qinghai aufgenommen worden.
