CHAMPS, demi-maroquin bleu nuit à coins, dos à nerfs, minerves dorées et dates en pieds, , couvertures imprimées et dos conservées,…rousseurs au 1er tome, le portrait de l'auteur en trois états (papier d'édition, Chine et Japon) placé en frontispice du 1er volume comprend des rousseurs (tirages sur Chine et Japon), très beau dessin original "portrait de Loti" de 3/4 à l'encre de chine sur bristol placé à la suite, bon exemplaire. Précieux exemplaire au premier volume truffé. Cette première édition collective a paru en 1893, d'abords sans les illustrations, puis la même année avec les illustrations de G. BOURGAIN et Désiré BOURGOIN, gravées sur bois par Lévéillé. "C'est la même édition que précédemment décrite ; les faux-titres et titres sont seuls changés (à la date de 1894) et les gravures ajoutées. La collation des volumes est la même ; Le Tome I contient 1 portrait de Loti et 4 gravures, les tomes II à V, chacun 5 gravures."( Georges Vicaire, Tome V, 410). Ces 5 volumes ont seuls parus à la date du 31 décembre 1893. Notre exemplaire comprend en outre pour le premier volume qui est entièrement illustré par BOURGOIN, 11 DESSINS ORIGINAUX, tous signés par l'artiste (encres de Chine et une très belle aquarelle originale) par Désiré BOURGOIN qui ne sont pas reproduits dans l'ouvrage, le hors-texte du mariage de Loti est en 4 états dont 2 signés par l'artiste, l'un avec dédicace de l'artiste. Les illustrations sont par ailleurs tirées en trois états, sur Chine, sur Japon et sur papier d'édition. Quelques tirages, portent également signature et parfois une dédicace de Bourgoin à l'un de ces amis du Collège Charlemagne que nous n'avons pu identifier. Provenance : Baron de Rothiacob (Minerve dorée au bas des dos).
