The author was a Jewish educator who was in charge of the education department of the Jewish community in Warsaw and wrote books o…n reading, writing and mathematics for the lower grades. Shortly after the German invasion of Poland and conquest of Warsaw, he fled with his family to Bialistok, which was under Soviet occupation. But 2 years later, when the Germans invaded Russia, he was appointed secretary of the Ghetto's Yudenrat and in the winter of 1943/1944 he committed suicide. The rest of his family suffered worse fate, except for one son who made it to Australia where he was a prominent violinist.
